Storm Team 9: Heavy Rain and Flooding Overnight

Kweilyn Murphy

An area of low pressure is keeping conditions nasty and dangerous for Eastern NC overnight. The mosaic of Moderate-to-heavy rain, flooding, lightning, and gusty winds continue. Rain will be present into twilight for many; and the chance for showers and storms will be reignited, again, on Thursday afternoon.

DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS: The Greenville Police Department is reporting dangerous street flooding at many major roadways in the city of Greenville. Motorists are cautioned to avoid driving near the following intersections:

  • E. Arlington Blvd near Red Banks Road
  • E. Tenth Street near Rock Springs Road and College Hill Drive
  • Dickinson Avenue near Hooker Road
  • S. Evans Street between Howell Street and Arlington Blvd.
  • S. Charles Blvd near E. Fourteenth Street
  • S. Memorial Drive near Millbrook Street

Also, a spotter reported that flood waters from Chicod Creek are rushing over Blackjack Simpson Road, making the road impassable.

OVERNIGHT: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy.  Low around 62. One to two additional inches of rainfall is possible.

THURSDAY: A chance of showers and thunderstorms through sunrise, with increasing chances after noon. Gusty winds and hail will be possible with these storms. Partly sunny. Warmer. High near 83.

END OF THE WEEK: Temps will steadily climb into the mid and upper 80s Friday and very close to or at 90 through the weekend. Expect only a slight chance of afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms. Overnight lows will be in the mid and upper 60s.

TROPICS WATCH: Storm Team 9 remains vigilant concerning an area of low pressure and its associated showers and thunderstorms in the NW Caribbean Sea. The chance for tropical development within the next two days in extremely low; but the moisture could impact our forecast into next week.
